HVAC Assembly System

Interfacing with production machines, this system automatically receives 'top covers' for Air Conditioning Compressors and delivers them to an automated paint line. Upon arrival at the paint process the top covers are palletized and accumulated in large quantities awaiting insertion onto the paint system. After being painted and dried, the Top Covers are delivered straight to the assembly line for 'just in time' insertion onto the finished product. Extreme care was required not to damage the top cover finish during delivery to the final-assembly area. The system was complicated by a requirement to ascend and descend nearly 40 feet within very short spans, while providing maintenance access to all components via platforms and catwalks. A support super structure was required as the existing roof structure was 'non-load bearing'. The entire project, including PLC controls and field wiring, was completed start to finish over a 2 week Christmas shut-down.
